Shoot! Goal to the Future, a new original anime, will premiere sometime in 2022. According to a website launched on Wednesday, Tsukasa Ooshima‘s soccer genre manga ‘Shoot!’ inspired the first new anime in 28 years. EMT Squared is in charge of the production of the anime.
The official website of the anime describes the story as:
Atsushi Kamiya, a former captain at Kakegawa High School and the world-renowned “courageous captain” for a famous Italian soccer team…
And Hideto Tsuji, a student at Kakegawa High School, who seems uninterested in the now-weakened soccer team…
Their meeting is the start of a new legend…

Between 1990 and 2003, the original ‘Shoot!‘ manga was published in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. There have been more than 50 million copies of the manga printed to date.

The manga’s plot revolves around a young man named Toshihiko Tanaka, who persuaded his friends to join the soccer team. Their goal is to compete in the All-Japan High School Championship and subsequently win the championship.

The series inspired Toei Animation’s Aoki Densetsu Shoot! television anime, which debuted in 1993. Later in 1994, a short sequel film followed up.
Additionally, in 1994, the manga also influenced a live-action movie adaptation, starring members of the boy band SMAP.
